Courthouse construction on schedule for year-end finish

Construction of the new San Benito County courthouse has been moving at a brisk pace on the lot at the corner of Monterey and Fourth streets. Judge Steven Sanders said last week the court staff members estimate the first proceedings will be held at the new courthouse location by the end of this year or early in 2014.

Dog bites Savemart employee; officers seek canine owner

Hollister Animal Control officers are seeking the owner a dog that allegedly bit a Savemart employee in the parking lot of the store Tuesday at 6 p.m. Animal Control officers were dispatched to the scene, but the dog’s owner left with the dog before they arrived.

Update: Officers make one arrest in alleged homicide case

Hollister police officers arrested a 17-year-old male from Morgan Hill Wednesday for the alleged murder of Andres Guzman, 19, of Hollister, Aug. 8. The arrest was made around 1 p.m.

Supes pursue office expansion at court building

As the construction of the new courthouse continues along Fourth Street, with estimated completion by the end of the year, San Benito County supervisors discussed how to allot the space that will be emptied in the existing courthouse.

Local residents touted for creating peace

At National Night Out Tuesday evening two local residents were honored as peace advocates in San Benito County. Assemblyman Luis Alejo selected Dolores Villalon and Robert Scattini to receive the 2013 California Peace Award along with three other residents or groups from his assembly district.
