A 16-year-old girl reported to Hollister police that a man attempted to kidnap her with a knife Tuesday night before she elbowed him and escaped, according to a statement from police.

A Ford Escape SUV flipped onto its roof in downtown Hollister after it was apparently broadsided by a Chrysler 300M around 10:30 a.m. this morning at Fourth and East streets, one block east of San Benito Street.

Gilroy police are at an apartment on the 9000 block of Kern Avenue in west Gilroy near Mantelli Drive investigating what they are calling “a critical incident.”

Jonathan Fidone, the Hollister man convicted of molesting a 19-month-old child, received a sentence Wednesday of 23 years to life in prison.

Morgan Hill police are investigating an armed robbery at a local hotel that might be related to two similar incidents that occurred in Hollister in recent days. 

Firefighters from the Gilroy Sunrise Station responded to a greenhouse fire at 8:15 a.m. on the 1900 block of Buena Vista Avenue that harmed an estimated 200,000 orchids and caused roughly $1 million in damage according to Karen Lin, whose parents own the business.

Three Gilroy residents were arrested around 3 a.m. this morning for drug possession when they were allegedly found driving a car so packed with marijuana that the trunk would not close.

Hollister police Sunday morning responded to the area of Miller Road at San Juan Road for a reporting shooting.

A proposed change concerning the provisional board appointment of a new trustee has been made to the agenda for tonight's Board of Trustees meeting at Gavilan College, located at 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. in Gilroy.
