Police arrest man with possible link to gunfire exchange

Hollister police are looking for suspects involved in a report of exchanged gunfire Sunday afternoon and have arrested a 25-year-old man who may have been linked, according to a police captain.

Runaway truck strikes man, utility pole, store building

A man was injured around 11:30 a.m. Monday when he tried stopping a truck from rolling down the hilly North Street in Hollister before the vehicle knocked over a telephone pole and ultimately rested against part of the Ranchers Feed building. 

Calfire honors retiring pilot with water salute

Last week, Calfire celebrated the retirement of their veteran pilot Russ Looney by surprising him with a traditional water salute. With a fire truck on each side, the department formed an archway of water over the taxiway as Looney took the plane in for a landing.

A 20-year-old Hollister man died in a single-vehicle accident Wednesday night in Gilroy when a car he was riding in crashed into a tree, according to the Gilroy Police Department.

Funeral set for Gavilan basketball player Gaines

The funeral service for Andrel Gaines, the 19-year-old Gavilan College basketball who died from injuries suffered in a Nov. 6 car accident, is scheduled for at 11 a.m. Dec. 3 in the gymnasium on Gavilan's campus, athletic director Ron Hannon told the Gilroy Dispatch on Wednesday.

Hollister police on Monday morning arrested a man suspected of stealing copper wire from the Pacific Gas & Electric facility in Seventh Street.
