Peter Charles Vona,73, of Aromas died at his home on Friday February 3, 2012 after a long struggle with diabetes and congestive heart failure.

Born in Canton, OH on September 17th,1938 to Peter and Valerie Vona. His family settled in Salinas where Pete graduated from Salinas High in 1957. After graduating from Salinas Beauty College, he owned Pete’s Coiffeurs with his brother.

Later moving to Hollister, Pete owned Johnny’s Bar where he held the first Hollister Motorcycle Rally in 1985. Pete spent 32 years in the Automotive Industries as a Service Advisor at many bay area dealerships, including Tipton Motors and Tiffany Ford. His love for tinkering on hot rod cars was fueled by his early years drag racing near the Salinas Airport. He was an Elks Club member and supported Lions Club activities.

Peter is survived by Geri Vona, his wife of 48 years, son Peter Jason Vona, twin brother Paul Vona, nephew Bill Canon, niece Paula Vona, Kristy Canon, Jodi Bloch, and Julie Gordon, and godson Dwayne Myers.

Private cremation has been held. The family would like to invite Pete’s friends to attend a celebration of life breakfast to be held at 7:00 A.M. on Friday, February 17th, 2012, at the Country Kitchen Restaurant in Prunedale. In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter’s can be to the American Diabetes Assn.
