Ladies Auxiliary meets: The Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9242 meets second Saturday of the month at 4 p.m. The next meeting is Jan. 12. The dues are $20 per year. Meetings are held at the Veterans Memorial Building, Room 204. Details: Call Dolly De Vasier at 637-1980.

‘Avenue Q’ at Paper Wing Theatre: Paper Wing Theatre will present “Avenue Q,” the Tony-Award winning musical that involves puppets, at 320 Hoffman Avenue, in Monterey. The show will run through Jan. 19, with shows on Friday and Saturday, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 for general admission or $22 for seniors, students and military. Living history demos at Wilder Ranch: Living history demonstrations and ranch tours will be available Jan. 12, at 11 a.m., with a tour of the ranch at 1 p.m., at Wilder Ranch State Park, 1401 Old Coast Road, in Santa Cruz. The tour will take visits to the 1897 Victorian home, the machine shop and other historic buildings. State park fee is $10 per vehicle. Details: Call 426-0505 for more weekend scheduled activities

Buddhist meditation: Join in a free Buddhist mediation session, Jan. 16, at 7:30 p.m., in the Barbara Memorial Room at the San Benito County Free Library, 470 Fifth St. in Hollister. In Buddhism, meditation means “effortlessly remaining in what is.” This state may be brought about by calming and holding the mind, when compassion and wisdom are realized, or by working with our bodies’ energy channels and meditating on light forms of Buddhas.
