Hollister – A woman is in critical condition after being thrown from a motorcycle during a single-vehicle accident on Highway 25 near Best Road Saturday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Claremont resident Patricia Mahler, 42, was flown to Stanford Medical Center after the driver of the motorcycle, Claremont resident and Los Angeles Police Officer Hipolito Lizarraga, lost control of his motorcycle around 4:15pm, said CHP Officer Brad Voyles.
Lizarraga, 47, a motorcycle cop, was driving southbound when he made a wide left-hand turn onto Best Road and allowed his bike to drift into gravel debris on the side of the road, Voyles said.
Although traveling at a very slow speed, his motorcycle overturned and both were ejected, Voyles said.
Mahler was wearing a non-approved helmet and hit her head very hard on the pavement, Voyles said. Emergency personnel were able to revive her , but she remains in extremely critical condition at Stanford Medical Center, Voyles said.
Lizarraga suffered bruises to his forearm and cuts to his elbow, but refused medical treatment so he could travel to the hospital to be with Mahler, Voyles said.
“She is in very, very critical condition,” he said.
