The Hollister Firefighters Association has endorsed Ignacio Velazquez for mayor.

The San Benito County District Attorney’s Office has reiterated a non-disclosure policy that defies the state open records law after a request related to the Heather Carroll murder case, contended the chief legal counsel for the California Newspaper Publishers Association.

A motor home was totaled in a Friday night fire outside of Hollister, but the primary residence on the property was spared of any damage.

Police investigators believe that David Quiroz requested “something specific” from Heather Carroll the morning of Oct. 10. Although detectives have yet to pin down a precise time when their encounter occurred, it appears as though an argument started soon after her arrival to his southeast Hollister home and that it promptly escalated into a physical confrontation, leading to her death.

A Hollister man was arrested in Gilroy on Oct. 17 on suspicion of attempted murder, two counts of attempted carjacking, armed robbery, kidnapping, burglary and terrorist threats. 

Due to uncooperative witnesses, police are looking for help in finding suspects from a gang-related stabbing that occurred earlier this month in Hollister.

The suspect in the homicide of 25-year-old Hollister woman Heather Carroll been convicted on three drunken driving-related charges in San Benito County and previously served 649 days in jail since 2001 for those and other related traffic charges.
